Summer of ’18

Oh, when I look back now

That summer seemed to last forever

And if I had the choice

Yeah, I’d always wanna be there

Those were the best days of my life

It was the summer of ’18

The Summer of ’18….. one of the best and well-spent times of my life.

Why, you ask?

Well, let me start from the very beginning…

A few days after my school shut, I left on a vacation to Italy, escaping the hot weather of Mumbai. My trip to Italy was real fun. I was traveling with my parents and family friends. In total, we were 8 of us. We traveled for 12 days and visited – Rome, Florence, Amalfi Coast, Venice and Milan. Everyday, we would wake up early and go sight-seeing. We mostly traveled on foot, taking an occasional metro for longer distances. The trip was tiring but so worth it. Few highlights of the trip were – the visit to Vatican City and learning about its history, climbing Mt.Vesuvius, walking through the ruins of Pompeii, the drive through the Amalfi Coast, Capri Island was pretty too, the famous Tower of Pisa and the Colosseum.

After that, I had a week to myself before all my workshops began. That’s when I caught up with my classes and friends. I met my best friends and enjoyed my time.

Then, my workshops began.

First, I had a theatre workshop. It was conducted by Silly Point Productions for children between the ages 13-18. It was for 20 days but it felt like it was just 4-5 days! Over there, I met many new people, who soon became close friends of mine. The first few days of the session were spent getting acquainted and comfortable with one another. We had exercises to warm up, trust one-another, annunciate correctly, plays in a minute, get to know each other and so on…. At the end of the workshop, we put up a show for our parents and a choral recitation of the poem – Cinderella by Roald Dahl under the guidance of our teachers. We received certificates for our efforts too! But one thing that I will always remember are the memories (obviously!) and the friends I made! It was a wonderful experience and I hope to go there next year too!

The second workshop that I attended was about journalism. It was conducted by journalist/author – Shabnam Minwalla. It was very informative and I learned a ton about how to improve my writing!

Along with these workshops, I learned how to play the guitar, created my blog, improved my swimming timing and spent quality time with my family and friends. Towards the end of my vacation, my cousin came over. The two of us are very close and enjoyed our time together at the fullest. We ate junk food, watched television all night long, went for shopping and even to a gaming arcade.  Then, I got ready to return to school! Oh, how I missed it!

And now the times are changing

look at everything that’s come and gone!
