From Bullied to Boss

A boy was born in Pretoria, South Africa on the 28th of June, 1971. He attended a school which was restricted to whites because South Africa was under Apartheid legislation. He criticised for his size, looks and for being nerdy and despite being a white, he felt lonely. He never fit in well with the children his age. The boy was extensively bullied during his childhood. Once, he was attacked and pushed down the stairs, where he hurt himself so badly that even to this day, he has trouble breathing because of it. His father bought him his first computer at the age of 10. The computer wizard, considered computer programming an escape from all the bullying that happened and everything going on in his life, including his parents’ divorce. He had trouble thinking the way of his classmates and evidently became an outsider. There are many other obstacles that that boy faced to become what he is today…. maybe you’ve heard of Tesla or SpaceX? Well, this bullied boy from Pretoria is none other than the billionaire Elon Musk. Surprising, isn’t it? One would have always imagined a person like him to have the perfect childhood and not something like this.

While Elon Musk has been fortunate enough to overcome his bullying, not everyone is. It causes many people to go into a shell of their own and start shutting everyone in their life out.

Bullying is a very universal societal evil and it needs to stop! It comes in many forms from cyber-bullying to physical-bullying. If you are being bullied, do not let it bring you down, many successful people today have been through difficult times which they have overcome. But that does not mean that you should be a silent victim, speak up! Let your bully face the repercussions of their actions. I have personally seen how things start to fall apart for people when they are bullied. Often it is due of something that is not in their hands! For example, their looks or their race or their financial status. This is not something to be proud of, in today’s society we should be more accepting of one another.

Bullying is something that no one should ever be put through. No matter your age, race or  anything. Bullying must not be encouraged. Think of this: Elon Musk was once a bullied child, today he is considered to be the inspiration of Tony Stark in the movie Iron Man to many people. Who doesn’t want to be Iron Man?
